Short Girls by Bich Minh Nguyen

Short Girls by Bich Minh Nguyen is a great, funny, touching story of family: two second generation Vietnamese immigrant sisters from the Mid West (one a caterer for You Did It dinners witha predilection for married man; the other her overachieving lawyer sister who has just been inexplicably left by her husband) and their eccentric inventor old father don't get on. But when their father decides to celebrate becoming a US citizen, things come to a head. I can't put it better than these terrific reviews.

'Fresh and funny, a heart-warming look at what it means to belong’ Marie Claire

'Loaded with tender charm and wry, lightly observed insights, this universal story embraces universal themes of family and belonging, as well as offering a glimpse of second-generation immigrant lives' Daily Mail

Nguyen is an amusing observer of assimilation angst…this gentle-comedy of inter-generational strife is a polished and poised affair' Independent
