Philip Nore is a steeplechase jockey with a passion for photography. When ruthless racecourse photographer George Millace, father of his friend and colleague Steve Millace, dies at the wheel of his car, Philip finds himself drawn into a web of intrigue.

His suspicions are aroused when Steve's parents' house is burgled. It appears that George Millace had something in his possession that his enemies were determined to retrieve. Armed only with his knowledge of photography and his worldly wisdom, Philip embarks on a trail of blackmail, corruption and violence where he must confront not only the evil of his enemies, but also the uncertainties of his own past.
